How do I import documents into Quip?

Importing files

You can import numerous file types - such as .doc, docx, .xlsx, pptx, .rft and .txt - into Quip. Per file, we have a rough estimate of about 25mb.

From the top right, click the new document icon, and the select "Upload or Import

Then, select "Upload File from Your Computer"

You can also drag-and-drop files from your desktop

  • Select a file from your computer (.doc, .docx, .rtf, .txt, .xlsx)
  • Drag it onto the Quip desktop or into a Quip folder
  • It will automatically be converted into a Quip document

Imported documents will be placed to a private folder,

Importing from other services

Quip enables you to import documents directly from other services such as Evernote, Dropbox, Google Drive, Box, and Hackpad.

Importing documents from other services is only supported from the Quip web application at this time.

From the top right, click the new document icon, and the select "Upload or Import

You'll then see a pop-up and be able to choose from one of the available services.

When importing from Evernote, you are able to upload more than one notebook at once. Make sure you have enabled pop-ups! We do not currently support more than one Google Doc at once.

You can also similarly upload files from other services from a both iOS and Android devices. Currently, Quip supports mobile importing from Dropbox, Google Drive, Evernote and Box.

Imported documents will be moved to a private folder.
